Island 2 Island Project – Sheppey
"You know I’m a Swampy and I make the best Gypsy Tarts"
The history of this Island always amazes me.
Here I am at Eastchurch Aviation Museum at HM Prison and Probation Service Standford Hill.
No wonder this venue was reviewed in The Times by Ann Treneman. “This is the home of British aviation, it was here on Sheppey, in 1909, that two sets of brothers, Wright & Short, as well as other derring-doers, built and flew early aircraft in Britain. It’s a curious and rather wonderful museum staffed by volunteers.”

I spoke to Tony Downs the Trustee and Museum Manager.
After listening to the history of the museum and it’s recent refit, I mentioned the impending project ‘Island 2 Island’ funded by Launch It Kent via Swale Borough Council , lead by Jodine Jean-Jacques, one of our young entrepreneurs.
I asked if he would be interested in being part of it, to share his stories with residents of Sheppey and the Caribbean community living here. He jumped at the chance. Then Pauline, the gift shop manager, showed me all the cross stitch pieces she makes and donates to the museum for sale.
Then almost as a throwaway comment she said “you know I’m a *Swampy and I make the best Gypsy Tarts” So she’s on the invite list too.

I can’t wait to get this project off the ground with Jerk Chicken & Gypsy tarts, history and folklore. What’s not to love.
